Howard Chen embarked on his musical journey at the tender age of five, studying piano under Esther Ko at Yamaha Music Studio. His dedication to the piano has been unwavering ever since. Howard has successfully completed Level 8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and the Advanced Panel Level of the Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC) Certificate of Merit. Throughout middle and high school, he was an active member of the orchestra, showcasing his talents on both the violin and piano.

Currently, Howard is a private student of Dr. Andrew Park. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Irvine, where he studied under the internationally renowned pianist Dr. Lorna Griffitt. Howard's exceptional talent has earned him multiple invitations to perform at Carnegie Hall and numerous awards in piano competitions across Southern California. His accolades include prizes from the International Grand Concours Piano Competition, Elite International Music Competition, Glendale Piano Competition, International Los Angeles Liszt Piano Competition, Cypress Piano Competition, Southwest Youth Festival, and the American Protegé International Piano Competition.

In 2023, Howard attended the Orfeo International Music Festival in Vipiteno, Italy, and he is set to participate in the Montecito International Music Festival in 2024. He will pursue his Master’s in Piano Performance at the University of Southern California, studying under Bernadene Blaha, starting in the fall of 2024.

Howard is passionate about sharing his love for music through teaching. He is dedicated to guiding students of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced musicians, and aims to cultivate mature musicianship in each of his students. While he maintains flexibility and understanding, he also knows when to be firm to ensure his students' growth. Outside of teaching, Howard enjoys exploring various music genres, watching movies, and playing tennis.
